Processor - Sep 01, 2010 | 03:00 PM AMD was on stage today at the first annual Global Technology Conference hosted by former AMD production arm GLOBALFOUNDRIES talking about their move to 32nm process technology and their partnership with the foundry. Most importantly though we saw the first public showing of the AMD Llano Fusion desktop platform APU!! System - Aug 31, 2010 | 12:00 PM System reviews are interesting in that anyone can put some PC components in a case and call it a gaming rig. The real issue is not just the hardware specs but how the company presents itself and how it supports customers before, during and after the purchase process. Having a 6-core processor overclocked to 4.5 GHz and a pair of GTX 480s never hurts though. General Tech - Aug 30, 2010 | 12:00 PM Hardcore gamers know the importance of quality sound when they are playing online or during gaming tournaments. Plantronics has always had their back and their new GameCom 777 headset gives them Dolby 7.1 virtual surround to add depth and clarity to their gaming experience. The GameCom 777 features a lightweight frame, noise cancelling technology, and 7.1 sound to make any movie, Skype conversation, or gaming match sound like your in a virtual surround sound theater. Case and Cooling - Aug 27, 2010 | 01:00 PM The Enermax MODU87+ 900W is a high output PSU with excellent efficiency, good voltage regulation, clean outputs, and it comes with modular cables. And for a 900W PSU it is very quiet. Check out our review of the latest PSU that can power your next high-end gaming rig! Graphics Card - Aug 26, 2010 | 05:00 PM Palit has prepared a highly overclocked GeForce GTX 460 graphics card for us today, their Sonic Platinum edition as they call it. The GPU on this puppy runs at 800 MHz while the shader cores come in at 1600 MHz, right out of the box. How do these overclocks equate in the real-world gaming and can this card rival the more expensive GTX 470 cards? Mobile - Aug 25, 2010 | 10:00 AM Despite the difference in materials, the MacBook essentially has the same physical specifications as the MacBook Pro. The display size is 13.3 inches, and unlike most PC laptops, the MacBook still has a display aspect ratio of 16:10. The MacBook is a powerful laptop for its size, both in terms of processing power and graphics power. Processor - Aug 24, 2010 | 12:02 AM The original Athlon architecture has been refined and reused for the past decade at AMD. Now we finally received the first glimpse of a brand new architecture from AMD, and one that they hope will again place them at the forefront of innovation. Bulldozer is AMD's best hope to relive the success of the original Athlon and Athlon 64, and it has a good chance of doing so for the company. Motherboard - Aug 23, 2010 | 12:00 PM Companies like ASRock and ECS are working to compete with giants in the motherboard industry like ASUS and Gigabyte, but they are taking a different path to winning over the hearts and minds of consumers. ECS is developing mobos that not only meet the performance needs of consumers, but they are also working to bring similar technologies and chipsets to market at a lower cost. The H55H-M is one of those boards selling for around $65 from most vendors, but it gives users a capable board that can handle any LGA 1156 processor and even a decent PCI-E graphics card to boot. Case and Cooling - Aug 19, 2010 | 02:00 PM No fan – no moving parts – no noise! Seasonic's new X-400 Fanless PSU sports all modular cables and delivers excellent voltage regulation with high efficiency. Just remember, it still needs to breathe. Editorial - Aug 18, 2010 | 12:06 AM Rumors of BFG Tech attempting to move over to AMD production after an apparent split with NVIDIA have been swirling for months now. Today, we received proof that this partnership almost sprang wings. Come see the first pictures of the BFG Tech Radeon HD 5750, may it rest in peace. Show and Expo - Aug 17, 2010 | 01:00 PM The final day of Quakecon 2010 brought more gamers from the local area who were trying to get one day of gaming in before the event was over. More than 2,800 gamers played their favorite titles in the BYOC over the course of the three-day event. Those who were able to stick around for the final day were treated with a special demonstration of Brink, our PC Perspective Hardware Workshop, and the Quake Live tournament finals. Show and Expo - Aug 16, 2010 | 12:00 PM The second annual PC Perspective Hardware Workshop is coming up very soon! System - Aug 13, 2010 | 01:00 PM VIA Technologies provided us with a sample of their new V1100 pico-ITX DIY computer and we came away pretty impressed with what the tiny little machine could provide. If you think you could use a Nano-powered SFF device, check out our video review in here! Show and Expo - Aug 13, 2010 | 10:00 AM PC Perspective is one of the featured sponsors at Quakecon 2010 and we are also hosting the hardware workshop and case mod contest this year. Quakecon has been around for more than 10 years and the best part about it is that it's free for gamers to come together and play their favorite PC titles. Check out our Day 1 coverage. Mobile - Aug 09, 2010 | 03:00 PM Heat is the enemy of all electronics, and cooling a notebook properly can be a challenge. To help prolong the life of your investment, Antec has two super quiet coolers, and one passive notebook stand that help promote better airflow. Is this one insurance policy you can't afford to pass up? System - Aug 06, 2010 | 04:00 PM Puget Systems is back with a gaming PC that is rated under 20db - and if you don't know how quiet that actually is...your breathing is probably louder. They are able to accomplish this with mostly off-the-shelf parts and careful selection of components. Stop in and learn by example on how quiet computing can be done! Graphics Card - Aug 04, 2010 | 07:31 PM With all the GTX 460 news swirling around the industry, I thought I would take a step back and take a different angle at the older, but very powerful, GTX 480 from MSI. Tessellation performance and GPGPU application support are two areas where I focused on, and the results I have found are somewhat telling about the state of tessellation in the graphics industry. Case and Cooling - Aug 03, 2010 | 06:00 PM Creating a portable gaming rig for LAN parties and other events can sometimes be a difficult task. Most hardcore gamers build their own systems and usually base them off the ATX motherboard form factor. Unfortunately, lugging a heavy ATX system to LAN parties is not very convenient or functional. NZXT has heard the gaming community's call for an innovative micro ATX gaming case, and the new Vulcan case falls gives them many of the features they put on their hardware wish lists. Graphics Card - Aug 02, 2010 | 10:00 PM The full release of StarCraft II is nearly here and we are getting you prepared by detailing GPU performance across current and previous generation offerings. Will the new game require the likes of the GeForce GTX 480 to run or will your Radeon HD 4850 make it through? UPDATE: New ATI driver enables antialiasing options - fully tested inside! Case and Cooling - Aug 02, 2010 | 12:00 AM NZXT has built an external fan controller and temperature monitor that uses a touchscreen interface for input. The device is clean and simple to use with support for up to five fans and temperature locations. Check out our video review to see if this somewhat extravagant accessory is for you! Graphics Card - Jul 30, 2010 | 03:00 PM Galaxy has a slightly overclocked GeForce GTX 260 1GB card on the table today that sells for about the same price as the reference speed cards today. Of course, we didn't leave good enough alone and pushed the clocks quite a bit more without a problem. And can dual GTX 460s over take the GTX 480 in terms of performance per dollar? Case and Cooling - Jul 28, 2010 | 10:00 AM The Phantom is well priced at $139.99 and comes in black, red, and white colors. It includes many high-end cooling features like a built-in fan controller and 7 fan cooling options with dual 200mm, single 230/200mm, triple 120mm, and front 140mm fans. Will it exceed the gaming community's expectations? Processor - Jul 27, 2010 | 03:00 PM Today Intel held a press briefing to discuss a milestone in the development of silicon photonics reaching a reproducible 50 Gbps link between two modules. Silicon photonics is the process of creating, modulating and reading photons via lasers for communications entirely on manufactured silicon. The technology and work being done is very complex but the ideas are pretty simple: create a piece of silicon that can create a laser to transmit data and another chip that can receive and decode the data at a low cost. Graphics Card - Jul 27, 2010 | 09:00 AM The new NVIDIA Quadro 5000 professional graphics card finally brings the Fermi GPU to the world it was originally designed for: content creators. Even though a whole new line of parts is being introduced it is really the 5000 model that will see the brunt of attention with a modest (!!) $2250 price tag. Performance might lag in gaming (clocks and specs are under a GTX 465) but in the world of CAD, design, animation and more the NVIDIA card has the edge over AMD's FirePro line. Mobile - Jul 26, 2010 | 08:00 PM The ASUS N61Jv notebook offers a lot for its $900 price tag including a 16-in screen, Core i3 processor, NVIDIA GT325M GPU with Optimus technology, USB 3.0 and a nice keyboard and touch pad combination. Battery life isn't going get you through a full day without plugging in but for a mid-range price and impressive feature set it could be the perfect back-to-school notebook. Case and Cooling - Jul 26, 2010 | 11:00 AM Corsair Memory continues to expand their PC power supply offering with the introduction of the Professional Series Gold line of power supplies, which currently includes three models: the AX750, AX850 and AX1200.
